out.

yea , well i hadn’t quite realized it but we did end up driving .. anyways i’m now in ottawa … went to this really nice place for dinner , and since carding is considered plain rude [which it most fucking certainly is] , well .. yes

anyways there have been a number of things that i have been meaning to blog about sometime but really haven’t gotten around to …. since i’m still too lazy to blog on them, you can find a lot of them (some might be interesting) at del.icio.us/jeeves .. if you’ve got some time to kill it might be worthwhile taking a quick glance

despite the ridiculous cold (actually relatively mild) of ottawa, it isn’t really half bad , quite a good number of really nice restaurants most of which are surprisingly reasonable … not to mention id-less bars and the like

last night, went to fatboy slim at 930 .. hadn’t quite been to a thing of that sort before, and it was pretty interesting and certainly entertaining … more than worth it since my scalped tickets were actually less than the official fare
;it was the late show (after interpol) and although doors were meant to open at 11, we didn’t get in until midnight and he wasn’t spinning until half past .. he definitely managed to work the crowd well and samples from blur (sing), white stripes (sevennationarmy) and franz ferdinand (takemeout) were pleasant surprises … we left around 2.44 because we couldn’t quite afford to miss the last train (which we ended up on) although would have loved to have stayed as the whole thing had been getting exponentially better since the clock struck two (when we had originally planned to leave)
his video guy had some pretty cool footage which he mixed very nicely along with some live footage … their lights were insane (and certainly excessive) with whole space frame components floating up and down during it all but definitely impressive
i certainly enjoyed it … also i was there with solomon (as well as jeremy and max) who i didn’t know was in town and i hadn’t seen in a long while, a Good Guy ™ so it was good to see him

i hear dc is going to be really nice this week (and there are plenty of parties i’m missing)
although i am jealous, it’s mostly because of the weather because i’m likely to drop by montreal later in the week and i’m very looking forward to the so many so great jazz bars around there (not to mention the few excellent ones around here)

japanese air conditioning.

please follow the link.

i meant to mention this a while ago , but there’s a rather strange site about japanese air conditioning
would say more (as usual) but i’m feeling kind of lazy, but yea it is rather strange
also congrats to the good LudiFolk behind Flickr on their deal with Yahoo, the future is looking pretty good …

feedburner

updated the feedburner feedURI to 77percent i’ve always been kind of uncertain about relying on feedburner [i.e having everyone get my feed via feedburner] it’s difficult to justify but i guess it really doesn’t matter too much in the end
so yea .. but as everyone already knows a ‘regular’ [albeit direct] rss feed (that will work most anywhere) exists at
http://77percent.com/wordpress/feed

del.icio.us/jeeves.

well just so you all know .. you are missing out if you’re not following my del.icio.us feed , surely it’s a big mess .. but overall you’re unlikely to run into anything dull ; although many of you are likely uninterested by some of the tech sort stuff, that’s what the tags are for and there’s relatively little of that anyways …. just take a glance every now and then and/or subscribe the feeds

btw party in math tomorrow,
because we’re just that great.

Romanian street art
i quite like the varying styles of international street art particularly in eastern european countries and the like. so be sure to take a look.

also anyone interested on more about nikola’s debate re: selective service and the draft
you should probably check this out on blogcritics.org
haven’t actually read it myself but it caught my attention

another thing, have you ever noticed how ridiculously overweight the manatee [commonly referred to as sea cow, doesn’t that sound more like an insult than a nickname] they seem ridiculously impractical as a creature, but pretty amusing creatures as far as i am concerned, would probably be a shame to see them go .. although in all honesty they’re lucky darwin let them stay along this far

and by the way, to all those recipients of erwin’s blatantly manipulative propaganda on Canadian baby seal hunting, particularly the implication of ‘hidden’ subsidies for the hunters and turning of a blind eye to the unethical practice … firstly this is all very untrue and that email has the very clear purpose of misinformation ..
in all honesty, despite the baby animal factor, there’s a whole lot worse injustices that exist around the world many of which are undeniably funded by US taxpayer dollars ,
before you offer your name to help sponsor missions intended to protect cute baby animals from being slaughtered, you might want to think about many more worthy causes ; don’t think that you’re just giving them your name , by showing support for ifaw you are giving them leverage to take money from the very limited pool of free humanitarian funding which imho could be much better used elsewhere

don’t get me wrong, i think baby seals are great and all .. slaughtering them isn’t very just … but in the greater scheme of things it’s not even comparable to the enormously more significant injustices around the globe

just thought i’d give you folks a little something to chew on
if you gag, at least you didn’t choke

sorry about the drifting but these things do happen …
comments are certainly more than welcome.

more on wolfowitz.

well firstly i want to appologize for being a little trigger happy on the wolfowitz post … but well i don’t like the guy ; not to say that he isn’t smart, because he is .. but he is bad, in that he is not good

nope, no second point .., sorry to get your hopes up .

from core77

if you follow the link on the web site to which i told you to go and browse about there’s some really cool stuff … and it is a very transnational [not multinational (as vargo likes to say)] thing apparently they have stuff from arlington and the like

mister wolfowitz.

mister wolfowitz is an ugly man.
in case you haven’t heard, wolfowitz for WB head is official .. i’ll miss wolfensohn, he was a humorous fella’ … definitely a good guy
didn’t think it would come to this … i figured bono was more likely (that would have been a lot of fun and we all know it ,, see his TED acceptance speech , it is excellent)

big tobacco and the cellular industry.

the cellular industry equiv Big Tobacco b2

a rather interesting article presenting the blatant similarities that are often overlooked between the control-freak cell phone industry and the publicly criticized [with great reason, see fairenough.com for some of my preferred (most realistic) counter tobacco industry ads not to say that there aren’t others that are good, but many emphasize the wrong things]

So, there’s this incredibly popular product that has widespread consumer use and a massive marketing presence. Nearly everyone uses it, and it has very high social acceptance, even though some people find it annoying when it’s used in public. It’s highly habit-forming; people who use the product on a regular basis find it almost impossible to live without.

Unfortunately, studies start to appear showing that the product might be harmful to its users–even cancer-causing. The product’s manufacturers deny the presence of any danger and even spend millions of dollars trying to discredit the research that points to problems. Then, an insider emerges, seemingly with proof that the product could be dangerous. The industry agrees to publish warning data about the product, but continues to maintain that the product itself is safe for use. Lawsuits against the product’s manufacturers are filed, but all are dismissed. Industry analysts know that any case that does succeed could start a domino effect of future lawsuits, which keeps the industry determined to maintain that the product is harmless, despite increasing evidence to the contrary.

it certainly makes a good point ..

castles made of sand.

reconfigured advertising

out of south london, comes the counter advertising activism group named CutUp. intended to force the [otherwise ignorant] people to recognize the overwhelming prevalence of consumer-driven advertising throughout the common lands. i would say more but i’m not in that mood anyways i thought it was interesting , so follow the link if you’re feeling interested.

castles made of sand
quite probably my favorite hendrix
great stuff, do enjoy it …

clocky.

another thing that i’m not in the mood to elaborate upon
so follow the link to clocky does sound pretty amusing and rather innovative, although no comparison exists to adrien’s dylan peering down into your eyes while awakening on th cold floor .. yea it’s quite something ; but i guess this thing might a little less traumatizing and with all the fun of too-early-in-morning hide&seek with thomas the cat.

again with the floatables.

/well, i really think the whole, if idealistic, concept of merely decent privacy bubble type thing is quite gorgeous, but it does tell about us and our society that we are in fact “fantasizing” about (with a particularly sci-fi air) the littlest bit of isolation ; that is referred to as a rebellious force in that it would be destroyed if found by the authorities … i just well i thought it’s really quite significant tell about what society has come to and i think the way in which haque has decided to express this social criticism of a sort is particularly effective as well as interesting .. but yea i just figured that i’d give a little reasoning for the post
a little refresher link in case you missed it the first time and are too lazy to scroll to find it

another thing, it is meant to snow on friday …yesterday was ridiculously pleasant, i mean that is not likely to happen again for a very long time .. i’m really regretting not taking the day off to chill with folk . it is definitely my very strong belief that we should miss school on the really great days that we could otherwise enjoy and might as well go there on days that are complete shit … makes more sense to me

fliker.

o yea this too
fliker.com thought this was damn cool
i mean of course at first i was a little pissed over the naming issue with flickr but i mean it’s not that bad although rather blatant … if anything though, in all honesty, this deserves the name more than flickr (in that it is more relevent to the web service) and because that is pretty true i don’t feel it worthwhile arguing about it
but its a very cool service .. it will search (with google image search) for images with real-time/incremental queries and the results can be pretty interesting , it loads the images as fast as you can download them and displays new ones in the exact same place, past pictures can be revisited with a drag\able timeline along the bottom of the rather slick interface (each pic is represented by a box coloured in the average colour of that picture if you know what i mean) .. fool around with it some if you have the time, the differing incremental queries can be pretty interesting so yea

pretty great design going on at arlo web/print design group .. thought it was worth mentioning

4by6.com very nice premium print shop for the little people [read: small biz not individuals (min order is one hundred) but pricing is pretty reasonable and i’ve heard that quality is quite extraordinary.

another final thing .. quite a number of things i noticed sometime in the past couple weeks about random signs of various sorts which seemed pretty interesting i’ll work on recovering the memories and if we’re lucky i’ll link some

and i’m going to link to this post on the regular because i thought it was pretty interesting how tax-payers are in effect subsidizing wal-mart et al in so much that their underpaid employees are leaching significant welfare dollars from the taxpayers and well i thought it was a very noteworthy phenomena assuming it has not yet been noted by you or yourself.

floatables.

floatables
very interesting concept type thing
i really liked it .. i would spend more time on it here
but well i don’t quite have an excuse but i’m not in the mood
anyways though its very interesting [as a concept] so check it out

i quite liked their explanations for its real existence
For many people the vessels are nothing more than a rumour …
“The vessels have no particular destinations and drift like flotsam around the city. However, they must keep moving because to be discovered by the authorities means almost certain destruction.”
perfectly reasonable as far as i’m concerned

anyways, now listening to
