defunbaker

defunbaker government was effectively discredited out of power directly because of american disfavour (the americans took them out, simply put, could it happen again today)

ideas to discuss with moo

  • web-to-recipient postcards.
  • turn a flickrstream/anyrssfeed (just a single tag) into a postal subscription
  • each of these should be prepaid in batches
  • build it and take it live with flickr as rss (via amazingmail et cetera)

jakob lodwick on radiohead’s scotch mist 29 Jan

‘They’re doing what comes naturally: making their art, connecting with their fans. They’re just using the tools that are at their disposal, taking off the rules and doing what feels right. And by doing that they are the new music business, because that’s what all artists will do. And what will separate good from bad won’t be access to distribution anymore, it’ll be if the art is any good or not, if it CONNECTS with people.

I’m sick of people saying “oh that’ll only work for Radiohead, it’s not the new model for the industry”. Those people need to stop look for the silver bullet, stop looking at what Radiohead is doing specifically and look at the paragraph above. The muse they are following will work for others, even if the execution is different. If the art doesn’t connect with people it doesn’t stand a chance, though.’

Staff from the West Hatch RSPCA Animal Centre working to remove the oil from Guillemots after pollution in the water around Portland, Devon following the beaching of the cargo ship MSC Napoli after it was holed during storms earlier in the week, 22nd January 2007. The ship is carrying almost 2,400 containers, about 150 of which are said to hold hazardous chemical substances. The drifting vessel was being towed to Portland Harbour in Dorset for a salvage operation, but the Maritime and Coastguard Agency decided to beach it in Lyme Bay, near Sidmouth, instead, following the structural failure.

are you travelling or something 23 Oct

I´ve been keeping busy. Spent a couple months working an organic farm (and on the occasion serving tea at a railroad station) in rural alberta, now working on some social projects in urban La Paz : mainly streetportraiting and other misc human(itarian) photography for a local NGO. apparently I can speak spanish now/again, things here are pleasantly exhausting (el altura probably has something to with it). Will be working on a top secret project with my brother in Vietnam (and maybe sailing in sanfran or phoket, whichever works best, for a bit with some friends around springtime) for the first half of next year. backpacking next summer and probably heading to uni in canada or great britain next fall.

... if all goes to plan and assuming I don´t get caught up in too many too emotionada protests while I´m around here.

i don’t like the ideology (closed protocol and just being close with ebay) it but i promote it because i know it’s the only (super-easiest) option to tell my friends about, especially if i’m going to ask them to use a new im client. it’s the only one that really rivals or outperforms msn or aim in terms of simplicity, appealingness and probably even reliability

getting my visa 22 Jun

from what i saw, the only electronic device in the visa office was a calculator that also spat out official receipts. I actually saw the kind clerk writing by hand in a book. I can only imagine the kind of problems that this can create, but let’s try to quantify them, i’m curious now, if they can get away with this then there must either be some merit (not having to buy all sorts of electronic crap?).
it was pretty stunning and impressive reallly

travelling to sri lanka 28 Jun
