again with the floatables.

/well, i really think the whole, if idealistic, concept of merely decent privacy bubble type thing is quite gorgeous, but it does tell about us and our society that we are in fact "fantasizing" about (with a particularly sci-fi air) the littlest bit of isolation ; that is referred to as a rebellious force in that it would be destroyed if found by the authorities ... i just well i thought it's really quite significant tell about what society has come to and i think the way in which haque has decided to express this social criticism of a sort is particularly effective as well as interesting .. but yea i just figured that i'd give a little reasoning for the post
a little refresher link in case you missed it the first time and are too lazy to scroll to find it

another thing, it is meant to snow on friday ...yesterday was ridiculously pleasant, i mean that is not likely to happen again for a very long time .. i'm really regretting not taking the day off to chill with folk . it is definitely my very strong belief that we should miss school on the really great days that we could otherwise enjoy and might as well go there on days that are complete shit ... makes more sense to me

fliker.

o yea this too
fliker.com thought this was damn cool
i mean of course at first i was a little pissed over the naming issue with flickr but i mean it's not that bad although rather blatant ... if anything though, in all honesty, this deserves the name more than flickr (in that it is more relevent to the web service) and because that is pretty true i don't feel it worthwhile arguing about it
but its a very cool service .. it will search (with google image search) for images with real-time/incremental queries and the results can be pretty interesting , it loads the images as fast as you can download them and displays new ones in the exact same place, past pictures can be revisited with a drag\able timeline along the bottom of the rather slick interface (each pic is represented by a box coloured in the average colour of that picture if you know what i mean) .. fool around with it some if you have the time, the differing incremental queries can be pretty interesting so yea
fliker.com

pretty great design going on at arlo web/print design group .. thought it was worth mentioning

4by6.com very nice premium print shop for the little people [read: small biz not individuals (min order is one hundred) but pricing is pretty reasonable and i've heard that quality is quite extraordinary.

another final thing .. quite a number of things i noticed sometime in the past couple weeks about random signs of various sorts which seemed pretty interesting i'll work on recovering the memories and if we're lucky i'll link some

and i'm going to link to this post on the regular because i thought it was pretty interesting how tax-payers are in effect subsidizing wal-mart et al in so much that their underpaid employees are leaching significant welfare dollars from the taxpayers and well i thought it was a very noteworthy phenomena assuming it has not yet been noted by you or yourself.

floatables
very interesting concept type thing
i really liked it .. i would spend more time on it here
but well i don't quite have an excuse but i'm not in the mood
anyways though its very interesting [as a concept] so check it out

i quite liked their explanations for its real existence
For many people the vessels are nothing more than a rumour ...
"The vessels have no particular destinations and drift like flotsam around the city. However, they must keep moving because to be discovered by the authorities means almost certain destruction."
perfectly reasonable as far as i'm concerned

anyways, now listening to

adrien's.

yea, well i've been chilling at adrien's for the past few days .... good stuff .. i'll probably go back home tomorrow or something, almost did today but decided that my bag was too heavy
anyways at least one of the parents ( i think that it's the father ) should be back by next monday and adrien's parents aren't too keen on the whole night-time awakeness this (catching up on good sleep here) so i'll probably leave before the weekend and figure things out ... anyways i'm not quite in the mood for writing crap so i'll see you folk around ...

sciessay.

yea well the science essay is definitely taking its toll on well me ...
its not all that likely that we'll miss (any of) tomorrow [else i would have given up a long time ago]
i'm kind of happy that i found a very ideal approach for my particular experiment (spent a while restructuring the whole topic and all) and it's all working out pretty straightforward /etc
i mean it isn't particularly difficult just rather tedious and time consuming .. not to mention memory-taxing

but here's a song for you all because, well i'm definitely not in a good mood or anything like that, but let's just say it's advance recompensation just in case i'm in a bad mood [read:asshole] tomorrow or something like that

anyways it'll be Apple Of My Eye by Ed Harcourt
good stuff, anyways its came on shuffle
and i like it quite a bit so that's that
.. enjoy it or don't.

mcdonald's.

yea i've been holding off on posting this because i've been pretty lazy but its pretty unavoidable right now because i'm too busy not starting my science essay to be concerned with wasting time posting
so here it is ..
.. wait where is it
well i'll have to check my del.icio.us [skinned for aesthetic's sake using pith] .. yes i finally got around to using delicious and i have to say that its a pretty good thing

anyways so the thing that i was talking about ...
... it is great
do check it out

anyways you folk might want to check out my delicious thing anytime you're particularly bored because i link most things that i find that are the least bit interesting [including a lot of things that definitely won't make it here (if only because i'm too lazy)]

yea snow(day) is likely for friday which should be a very good thing .. although it would be so ridiculously ideal to have one tomorrow in that i could spend all day doing my science essay [in effect starting this time tomorrow] and then hand it in friday .. but that's most probably not going down so yea .... definitely had something else i wanted to mention but can't quite remember what it was so screw it .. anyways definitely quite screwed for the science essay, meh .. no idea what it was well fuck that

.... just so everyone knows, the weekend will be muy bueno so folk might want to give me a ring or i might end up calling you very very late at night and waking you up (entirely out of spite) .. in all seriousness, sorry for all those that i do call late at night, you are a great sport about it and never seem to be too pissed and sometime actually put up with my intoxicated self

o yea another thing [still not the real thing] while brother was over here the weekend (and we fooled around with the fuel cell concluding it was faulty) we concluded that i should start selling 77% dark chocolate , we spent a while discussing a business plan and it's all sorted out, very sorted out .. because there is a market, the demand exists but no one does it, except for me of course, as of the time when i start chocolate mixing ... it'll be very great because i mean the demand definitely exists in that some people just aren't satisfied with 70% dark but might find 85% just a touch too bitter and not enough sweet .. now if we were to mix the two (maybe favoring the 85% in the mix just a little and then as a result changing the name to persay 77.7% ,because 77.5 is just not going to happen) .. well it'll be great, so great .. i'm sure there are great margins too especially in the long run [carreer planning now] ...
i see a future and its dark , just not too dark .

eleven.

half the letters (every other letter) in the word eleven are the letter e

this unusual revelation occurred at adrien's house yesterday don't quite know how or why but it did take place .. i also accurately guessed the number of letters in the word eleven in the process ; it was quite something really .... i would talk about friday night [and/or the first several hours of saturday] but i'm not quite in the mood [after wasting all that time with the sci essay thing, glad i got that off the ground though] .. so much for keeping this short, in order to maintain the impact of that sentence above i'm going to put a whole lot of space

i suppose that the least i could do for the bunch of you is link a little bit of the good mr carlos jobim .. excellent latin style jazz .... don't remember how i found him but i'm sure i could remember some interesting story behind it ; it just felt appropriate well not really appropriate i was just in that mood not really that either, to tell you the truth it was just playing while i was writing and here we are

i kind of owe you folk a bit more than one song but i've got this tendency against multiple hosted links in a day, i begin to feel like i'm feeding people or something along those lines .... anyways i'll pick out something nice from flickr for you guys in a bit ...

i was going through my selection of latin stuff and i haven't had the chance to listen to it in a while which is a horrible shame i might up some more of that another time or i might forget
another thing just ordered Gran Hotel Buenos Aires by frederico aubele .. pretty enjoyable trippy-ish latin sort of acoustic guitar related stuff , anyways interestingly enough he's an eighteenth street lounge artist and since only greatness comes from that exceptional lounge based label [including the good folk known as Thievery Corporation] i'm quite looking forward to its arrival along with my 'pizza-stone'-based device

k well had the very greatest dc cab driver ever, well-comparable to some london cabs .. had a very serious convo with the driver who was great, very enlightened and also knew where he was going ... the convo with him was very good, normally in cabs i'm just on the phone and i pay the guy with tip as a courtesy not as a you-deserved-it ... but this guy was really interesting and we talked about some pretty serious stuff .. and after we got here (surprisingly fast) we talked for bit longer before i left ... more people like that should drive my cabs

probably overtipped but he had it coming ..

wooden mirror.

the wooden mirror

a very interesting project, nearly a year's worth of investment .. but the result is definitely something quite unique ; it is, as the name might give away, a wooden mirror as in a mirror made from wood ; eight hundred thirty 40mm wooden squares form an octagon of 35 by 29, each wooden square is controlled by an individual servo which in turn is daisy chained into controllers and eventually a computer. the servos control the vertical angle of each wooden square [i.e rotating on a horizontal axis] an overhead spotlight shines downwards upon the individual 'pixels' and therefore, depending upon their angular orientation, they can produce varying shades of light. a very little camera in the center feeds the control unit and the individual wooden pixels very between 255 (theoretically) different positions yielding approximately ten different shades, in real-time at ~15 Hz

very impressive video .. overall a very challenging and, without doubt, interesting achievement

we are now playing

still regretting the haircut yesterday .. i generally regret haircuts, still pissed at the guy although he was pretty friendly he's only now starting to annoy me ... he did cut it awfully short, and i had told him not to, he distracted me and i didn't notice until it was too late ...

anyways though not good to dwell on bad things; last night was quite muy bueno lol spent a while finding adrien (after he had spent half an hour convincing me to come to the ball) because he had gotten himself lost nearby the school, just before we were about to walk into the ball; we saw jeremy and stephen in the distance and both of our minds changed at just around the same time and before we knew it we were walking again, in the cold, but it was quite worth it .. later on came back and i bought a ticket but didn't go in because our folk were then leaving, mrs totten insisted i take my money back and it was later spent on the happiness of the night .. heard the whole thing wasn't all that great anyways, and i wasn't planning on going in the first place so i'd say it was a pretty good call ... anyways i should figure out this whole english essay thing sometime as well as a few other things, not to mention the mUN proposal ... we could miss monday but i'm hoping for a two-hour although compared with the other days that we could have missed in the past but didn't its not all that bad of day and first two periods are pretty good too so i don't know if its worth it of course anything is worth the extra sleep and i guess a day off is a day off, isn't it .. so yea

haven't posted in a while but i don't have all that much to share at the moment although there are some new pics up on flickr so if anyone's bored enough they might give it a look .. although its nothing much ; i liked the stuff that i got on the metro of that guy sitting there staring at the paper, it seemed interested at the time and i'm sure there is some sort of a niche for that kind of thing all the same though i was pretty bored at the time

found the trainspotting soundtrack on my desk again ... it keeps on appearing everywhere i don't know what's up with it, i mean its definitely a great soundtrack, if anyone needs a copy i'll host it .. but yea it's kind of odd how it just shows up in the middle of everything but kind of odd in an interestingly amusing sort of a way .

afternoon.

well today was today .... in the metro there was a homeless man sitting and metro officials and a police officer were trying to get him to move , never before had i seen it done so blatantly ; there was the station manager and also a local police officer, and most notably a tall balding man in a heavy wool overcoat with a completely blank face, only a small tag indicated his status as a metro official .. the man in the overcoat said absolutely nothing (there to be an important looking official intended intimidate people from stopping , paying attention and thus creating a crowd (which is precisely what i ended up doing) ... i'm sure he was real concerned because loads of protesters from the day were passing through the station (not to mention a small family with "don't mess with dubya" buttons which i found quite amusing, they looked like they felt very out of place and seemed surprised) but yea the protesters were obviously too tired to notice) anyways i really wish that i had had my camera there because it was a seriously shameful situation ... the copper was talking to the guy who was sitting peacefully with his head down and had been praying .. the guy started to explain how people had been stealing his shoes when he was at a shelter and that it was very cold outside ... the 'metro official' in the heavy overcoat was standing there the whole time with an incredibly blank expression looking as if he mattered , the station manager asked me if he could help me as if that was the only reason for which i could be standing there not that i made me move .... really really wish that i had my camera with me, that would have gotten the buy in the heavy overcoat pissed and would have let me post this story on flickr but yea i didn't which was a horrible shame .. just to be fair, the copper wasn't rude or mean or anything and was relatively understanding but it still wasn't a very nice thing for him/them to do , although i suppose he was just doing job and he really didn't have any choice at all .. he was trying to solve it without anything bad happening and that was good of him .. but its bad of the metro for being so uptight about the guy ... he wasn't yelling at customers or even actively begging

onemilliondisplaced.

sri lanka is well over [updated] forty thousand with quite probably more than a million displaced.

noticed on the bbc news bar that h&m is concerned with potential supply chain problems, ridiculous shit.

on, relatively speaking, a more positive note, 'it all' might help alot to unify the people of sri lanka, where a large portion of the island has been pretty much quarantined from press and int'l aid because of tension between rebels and the gov't thing .. so yea that's a good thing

wondering about the seychelles, home of chow ... i suppose we'll figure that out soon .

had the craziest dream last night ... started out with a beach in the south of france and then something to do with china and some nukes and then like taking over the world or something, it was pretty messed up but damn memorable, almost ..

kind of anxious to get home , you know with the whole four days of free house ; yea, it'll be quite great ... most of the people here i've met are pretty decent ... alot seem pretty annoying but i've done a pretty good job avoiding them ... anyways thought the weather is definitely nice ; got the chance to upload some pics but various constraints existed but when i get back and alive things will change ...
i like the whole no obligations thing, like in France my only obligations are my own fault and usually a good good thing hehe ... lots of other foreigners here soaking in the warmth

the sea lounge at the taj is really nice and has a damn cool view over a harbour of some sort .. pics didn't turn out quite as nice as they could have but they weren't too bad ... also got some around the city, some good most not so good .. will upload later on ; don't have the time or the bandwidth to do that now ... anyways yea surprisingly many people of the right age, language and sex; relatively chill folk at that, a good thing ... a while ago i sort of realized how annoying some people can be anyways yea all is pretty well

... a horrible shame about the whole tsunami/earthquake thing, numbers are now well over thirty thousand and still rising ; we almost went to pondicheri (no idea on the spelling) also a friend of mine almost went to thailand .. chance can be a pretty friendly thing some of the time , visiting pune (pronounced poo-neh or poo-nah not puy-nee) for a bit, not many people that i know here that i feel like meeting .. altho the weather is good and we've got a real nice place here so i'm pretty comfortable just chilling out with the musica and this really cool book i found (Liar's Poker) ... its by michael lewis, i've read his other book and really liked it, he's really good interesting stuff although i never knew that he worked on Wall Street it's definitely a good book ... at the oberoi in mumbai i didn't have any time to read it, was really happy with the people i met there definitely fun stuff , was concerned there would be too many annoying rich indian families but i lucked out and most were interested european tourists with folk of the right age and matching interests and the like, stuff was fun there ... here it's more chilled out, both definitely enjoyable though different, needed some time to chill out between bombay and the free house ; gonna be good by the way

delayed post from hotel

something about it, its relatively soothing

i mean its a very nice place, the swimming pool on the roof of the five star hotel, however, you can still hear the muted bustle of the city numerous floors bellow car horns repeatedly argue with eachother, but up here its pretty great, got beer, great sun, very very nice pool ... its kind of like the noise is a constan t reminder of how secluded we are, don't quite know if that's a good thing or not ... the varying hum of numerous neighboring buildings' air conditioning systems, all of this oddly calming .. don't quite know its really quite odd
met a person today, pretty chill ... indian kids are usually annoying, fortunately at the hotel there are a lot of foreigners, she was iranian i think anyways yea we'll figure things out tonight ... the thing about the swimming pool i dont quite know it was pretty strange, resulted in some heavy duty reflection you know that stuff yea but a few minutes later another beer came and soon after a person; people are pretty fun like that, kind of like another person alone, only one way to fix that lol anyways yea ...

the weekend.

looking quite forward to the weekend, it will be good .. i still don't quite know where exactly i'm traveling to after the weekend however i hear its someplace warm and that is a good thing ... had an issue with supply for friday night but i've kind of worked it out ... also did some work for the brother, the jabber guy that i found for him is working out well and that is good .. anyways yea not too much to say the weekend will be fun and i'm pretty certain that i will have the house to myself after i come back for at least four nights, so we all know that those'll be some fun times .. having select few over , if i've forgotten you and you really think that you're worthy you could try a drop me a line before i leave or whenever i get back .. but its meant to be kind of small [the fewer that come the more supplies for those that are there] and also big things tend to be an annoying generally all round pain in the ass so yea

from dog day afternoon.

Sonny: I'm robbing a bank because they got money here. That's why I'm robbing it.
TV Anchorman: No, what I mean is why do you feel you have to steal for money? Couldn't you get a job?
Sonny: Uh, no. Doing what? You know if you want a job you've got to be a member of a union. See, and if you got no union card you don't get a job.
TV Anchorman: What about non-union occupations?
Sonny: What's wrong with this guy? What do you mean non-union, like what? A bank teller? You know how much a bank teller makes a week? Not much. A hundred and fifteen to start, right? Now are you going to live on that? A got a wife and a couple of kids, how am I going to live on that? What do you make a week?
TV Anchorman: Well I'm here to talk to you Sonny...
Sonny: Well I'm talking to you. We're entertainment, right? What do you got for us?
TV Anchorman: Well what do you want to get for it? Do you expect to be paid because...
Sonny: No, I don't want to be paid, I don't need to be paid. Look, I'm here with my partner and nine other people, see. And we're dying, man. You know? You're going to see our brains on the sidewalk, they're going to spill our guts out. Now are you going to show that on television? Have all your housewives look at that? Instead of As The World Turns? I mean what do you got for me? I want something for that.
TV Anchorman: Sonny, you could give up?
Sonny: Give up? Right. Have you ever been in prison?
TV Anchorman: No!
Sonny: No! Well let's talk about something you fucking know about, okay? How much do you make a week? That's what I want to hear. Are you going to talk to me about that?

i remember seeing it a while back ... it was a really well done film ; i was looking it up earlier because that quote from swordfish where travolta is talking about it with the fbi guy well it came up on random in iTunes and i listened through it so then i looked this up and remembered and yea just thought i'd share .. anyways personal project is still going not too happily

minustendays.

alright officially at minus ten days, don't know what to say ... anyways, yea ; quite honestly, i'm screwed .. very seriously have to get some progress done on the almost nonexistant state of it all , i'll have to figure something out
last night was loads of fun though; the killers , velvet revolver, et al were all great .. tickets weren't as great as they could have been but we were ridiculously lucky finding the scalper dodgy ass fellow, prices weren't nearly as exorbitant as might have been expected ( since he was nearly as desperate to get rid of them as we were for them) .. but yea in the end it all worked out pretty well, as is always the case ...

transportation was naturally pretty great lol getting back involved literally running after a cab to flag the fucker down , being very early in the morning, no buses were running and any cab drivers were paranoid of kids, anyways it worked out ... then a long metro ride, good times in the metro ... we got a car to ourselves and i'm pretty certain we were on the last red line train that night [metro runs through three, and i got out of the metro a little while past three so yea .. caught up on the hydration and then went searching for food, you know how it can be in bethesda .. anyways that didn't happen so i just headed home and made a pizza, time now nearing four, don't know what life would be like without frozen pizzas

yea everyone's been saying it and since it impacts my existence pretty impactfully i figured it deserved a post ... anyways its definitely time to start starting the project ... got a nearly solid amount of work done late last night, which is definitely a good thing although i've certainly got a long way to go, i'll figure it out sometime

saturday is going to be fun although transportation has become a major issue ... franz ferdinand, the killers and .... velvet revolver ; i'm going to have to get tkts because everyone else is too incompetent .. but it'll be great and if it doesn't work out then we'll all chill out somewhere with some stuff it'll be good either way .. we'll probably go there and then have to sell a scalper our souls and then cut him up until he gives them back .. ah the greatness that is the underground soul trade [see post about the plan to steal little children's souls] ; the great thing is that its got all these people that i haven't seen in a long time so either way it'll be enjoyable ...

moas.

mOAS wasn't bad, won't be bad .. considering the missed classes, etc.

things like this always remind me how ridiculous [and how much i hate] bureaucracy

met the ambassador for grenada, in a townhouse/theembassy [don't anything by that, considering that size of the country and the fact that 90% of all physical structures that existed on the small island were no longer standing physical structures as of hurricane ivan] he was a lot of fun ... his aide person kept on feeding him keywords whenever he started to stumble which was amusing because she was being discreet but the room was pretty small so almost everyone could hear the echo, also he received a couple phone calls in the middle of sentences, then again i'm surprised that we met him you know considering the state of affairs in grenada and all ... he was definitely amusing used an awful lot of analogies .. lol : "if grenada were a car, it would be a write-off" [re: insurance writeoff /etc]
caucusing was fun as always, tend to meet a lot of really interesting people in these things and then some that are less enjoyable
mr green showed and that was relieving because that made me not the most senior yrbk person there and thus no longer the least bit responsible for making sure that the mOAS pic takes place .. charlotte would have been pissed if i had forgotten which i would have
lol in the beginning when all the head reps were giving their ridiculously boring speeches and everyone was totally tuned out and i was watching the yellow balloon slowly float about [because of the air vent, i later discovered] i noticed that the person speaking was rhyming and i thought it was hilarious that he had a pair rhyming sentences [not having heard the contents] some people about the room started to wake up and look confused .. people started to laugh ... then i realized that i was continuing and that this guy was in fact rhyming the names of all the member states of the oas, that was ridiculously great and he mentioned cuba too which he wasn't supposed to ,which only made it greater still ... that was probably the only reason i didn't fall asleep during the thing and i almost resent the guy for that .. but i mean it was definitely the only one of them that anyone listened too ... it was pretty great [anything outside of the ordinary is great when things get to be that monotonous for that long] but we're over with that and my committee could be worse, considering its the most burdened with bureaucracy .. there are some chill folk

napalm, i mean firebombs.

yea well i hear now that us air craft have been using napalm-equivalent firebombs on iraqi soldiers [and quite probably civilians looking like soldiers] ... this a really not good thing, incendiary weapons have been used in pretty much every us military conflict since wwii most notably so in vietnam and they are without doubt very inhuman(e) of a way to die.
they basically involve incinerating [hence the name] anything within range of the impact in an enormous fireball of a sort, causing quite possibly the most painful means of death, burning alive or worse yet suffering from ridiculously painful yet not-yet-lethal burns for an extended period of time, often after being blinded ... this is no bunsen burner burn or painless soldering iron burn, this is like existing-within-a-fireball-for-an-extended-period-of-time burn, very very strong flesh burns all over ... anyone who i've told about matt and the gasoline exploding about his head, its like that except without the luck and jet fuel rather than the cheaper kind of petrol , not good ...
the pentagon refers to the "remarkably similiar to napalm" devices used in iraq as mark 77 or 'firebombs', they involve a shell filled with a large quantity of kerosene-based jet fuel, instead of the benzene/gas mixture used for napalm, inevitably the impact ignites the very flammable contents in a somewhat controlled manner thus allowing the fireball to be spread out over a larger area and to also endure a short while ...
experts have said that the distinctive fireball and very strong smell [of burning flesh and fuel] have significant psychological impact upon the victims

a few quotes re:this

col. randolph alles of marine air group eleven
"unfortunately, there were people there because you could see them in the (cockpit) video ... It's no great way to die."
"the generals love napalm .. it has a big psychological effect."

john pike, a defense analyst from globalsecurity.org [relatively nonpartisan for the record]
"you can call it something other than napalm, but it's napalm."

normally i would not disgust you folk with this sort of a very detailed description of war technology because war technology is bad technology [ just for the record a silenced walter ppk is not war technology its 007 technology and thus does not fall under the same generalization ] but some things, i think, really need to be understood in detail to be really understood properly and i think this is one of them ... if you didn't read the stuff above its perfectly alright and quite certainly understandable, but i just felt it was ... important or significant, but yea it is most definitely not a good thing ...

CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the  South, to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: Recommend YOU  divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the North, to avoid a collision.

CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say  again, divert your course.

CANADIANS: Negative. I say again, You will have to divert your course.

AMERICANS: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN. THE  SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES ATLANTIC FLEET, WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTERMEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
